Valacyclovir HCL is a drug used in the treatment of viral infections. Valacyclovir HCL is, more specifically, used in the treatment of the herpes simplex virus, as well as preventing the development of cytomegalovirus in post-operative organ transplant patients. Valacyclovir HCL may also be used for purposes not listed in this guide, at the discretion of the prescriber.Valacyclovir HCL is used in the treatment of the following conditions:
- Herpes simplex virus
- Prophylaxis against cytomegalovirus
- Herpes zoster virus
Valacyclovir HCL Dosage
The dosage of valacyclovir HCL depends on the needs of the patient, and the extent of their pain severity. The dose also depends on whether the patient is taking any additional medications or has an underlying illness.
- Adults: 1g to be taken orally twice daily for 7-14 days.
- Adults: 2g to be taken orally four times daily.
- Adults: 1g to be taken orally every 8 hours for 1 week.
