Toposar is an antineoplastic which is used for treating patients with lung cancer and testicular tumors. Toposar works by stopping the tumor cells from dividing which prevents the spread of certain types of cancers. Toposar is used with a combination of other cancer medications. You should not use Toposar if you are allergic to any ingredients in it or if you have a kidney disease, bone marrow depression or a history of blood conditions.

Toposar is an antineoplastic that is used for treating lung cancer and also testicular tumors in patients who have tried other treatments with no success. Toposar is usually used together with other cancer medications whereby it stops the tumor cells from dividing(mitosis) hence preventing the spread of certain types of cancer. Toposar is also used for treating patients who are suffering from Ovarian cancer and also those with Hodgkins disease. However, Toposar may decrease the ability of your body to fight infections which are mainly as a result of bone marrow suppression. Notify your doctor immediately you develop symptoms of an infection so that you can be monitored closely. Toposar is also used for treating patients with the Malignant disease. Any other condition that can be treated by Toposar should be determined by your doctor.

The dosage of Toposar should be taken as directed by your doctor. If there is a case of an overdose, talk to your doctor immediately or a health care professional.
- In combination with other approved chemotherapeutic agents, the initial dose for testicular cancer should be 50 to 100 mg/m50 to 100 mg/m2 IV once a day starting from day 1 through 5 or 100 mg/m2 IV once a day on days 1,3 and 5.
- The usual adult dose for lung cancer should be 35 to 50 mg/m2 IV once a day for 4 to 5 days or 70 to 100 mg/m2 orally once a day for 4 to 5 days.
- The Pediatric dose for the Malignant disease should be 60 to 150 mg/m2/day IV for 2 to 5 days every 3 to 6 weeks.
Toposar Side Effects
Like all other drugs, Toposar too has its side effects whereby some of them may be just minor and manageable while others may need medical attention as they are severe and bothersome. You should check with your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur while you are taking Toposar. More common:
- bleeding gums
- black, tarry stool
- blood in the urine or stool
- chest pain
- painful or difficult urination
- swollen glands
- pale skin
- sore throat
- unusual bleeding and bruising
- blurred vision
- difficulty with swallowing
- tightness in the chest
- pounding in the ears
- slow or fast heartbeat
- Bone pain
Like any drug, Toposar may interact with other drugs and substances. Drug interactions may cause an increased risk of side effects or change the way your medication works. You should tell your doctor about any medications you are currently taking, including over the counter drugs. Herbal supplements and vitamins may also interact with Toposar.
