Solu-Cortef Uses

Solu-Cortef is a medication that is used by healthcare practitioners to treat various conditions that can be found in patients such as:

  • Allergic reactions
  • Blood diseases
  • Breathing problems
  • Certain cancers
  • Eye diseases
  • Intestinal disorders
  • Skin diseases

Solu-Cortef basically functions by decreasing the body's defensive responses and in effect reduces the symptoms such as swelling and allergic reactions that are caused by such conditions. Solu-Cortef is a corticosteroid hormone called a glucocorticoid. Solu-Cortef is injectable and generally used when a similar type of medication cannot be used or rather when a fast treatment is required by a patient, especially those with adverse medical conditions.

Solu-Cortef Dosage

The therapy for Solu-Cortef is initiated by administering an intravenous injection, this is done by intravenous infusion or rather by intramuscular injection. However, the preferred method for initiating an emergency treatment is by intravenous injection.

  • The therapy is initiated by administering Solu-Cortef for 30 seconds (100 mg) to 10 minutes (500 mg)
  • In the cases of high dose administration the therapy should not be initiated until the conditions of the patient have stabilized, this is usually not beyond 48-72 hours, because hypernatremia may occur

It may be wise for the physician to replace Solu-Cortef with an alternative such as methylprednisolone sodium succinate.
