Sodium Bicarbonate is used to treat metabolic acidosis which is a condition in which there is excess acid in the body. It also treats certain drug intoxications as well as replacing bicarbonate loss due to severe diarrhea. However, this medication may also be used for other conditions as determined by the doctor.
Sodium Bicarbonate may cause several side effects. Some of the common side effects include; slow breathing, unpleasant taste, nausea, vomiting, frequent urination, loss of appetite, headache, and unusual tiredness. Seek medical attention in the event these side effects occur.
