Provent is a medication that is formulated to be used in the treatment of various symptoms of asthma.Proventis formulated with theophylline as the active agent and it is the one that is responsible for preventing and treating asthma.

Mostly, Provent is designed for asthma prevention and treatment. Theophylline is a xanthine derivative that works by relaxing muscles around the airways in the lung to allow for their widening, this makes it very easy for the patient to breathe normally.   • Asthma maintenance; 5 mg/kg as a loading dose. 10mg/kg/day for nonsmoking and 16 mg/kg/day for smokers as the maintenance dose.

Usual pediatric dose

  • Asthma – Acute; 5 mg/kg as a loading dose. The maintenance dosage will be determined by the age of the patient with 3 mcg/kg/day as the minimum and 10 mcg/kg/day as the maximum.
