Protopic is a prescription medication used in the treatment of moderate to severe eczema. Protopic belongs to the TCI class of medications and is a second-line treatment (it is only used when other prescription drugs have not yielded success). Protopic is recommended for adults and children over two years of age with a strong immune system. This medication is only administered for a short period on skin with moderate to severe eczema.
Protopic is a non-steroidal topical macrolide immunosuppressive drug used mainly after allogeneic organ transplant to reduce the risk of organ rejection. Protopic reduces cell activity in the body"s immune system which slows down the growth of atopic dermatitis (eczema).
It is used to treat severe eczema.
To use Protopic medication one should; Clean hands before and after using the ointment, then apply the medication in a thin layer, only to affected areas of the skin. Only use the medication after a shower.
Notice: Stop the medication once your symptoms have cleared up unless your doctor has told you otherwise.
Side effects may occur during the first few days of treatment which may include; stinging, soreness, or itching of the treated skin. If either of these effects persists, tell your doctor or a pharmacist promptly.
Store Protopic at a room temperature. Keep the ointment tube tightly closed when not in use.
