Prostaglandin E1 Uses
Prostaglandin E1 (Caverject) belongs to a drug class, called impotence agents and vasodilators. Prostaglandin E1 treats erectile dysfunction and allows men to have sexual intercourse. Prostaglandin is a naturally occurring acidic lipid that is found in the phospholipids of cellular membranes. Prostaglandin E1 when injected into the corpora cavernosa of the penis, binds to specific membrane-bound receptors in human penile tissue. The binding increases intracellular cAMP levels which increases blood flow and erection of the penis.
