Promacta Uses

Promacta is used by medical practitioners to treat low platelets in patients that have a certain blood disorder known as Chronic immune thrombocytopenic purpura or who have chronic hepatitis C. Promacta may also be used by physicians to treat patients that have a certain blood disorder called aplastic anemia. The platelets in the body are a type of blood cell needed to form blood clots and prevent bleeding. Promacta functions by decreasing the risk of a patient bleeding by increasing the number platelets in the body. Promacta acts like a particular natural substance that is found in the body that causes the production of platelets.

Promacta Dosage

For administration of Promacta, use the lowest dose to achieve and maintain a platelet count that is equal or greater to 50*10-9/L as necessary to be able to reduce the risk of the patient bleeding. The dose adjustments of this medication are based on the platelet count response. Patients are advised not to use Promacta to normalize platelet count. In trials, the platelet counts have been found out to increase within 1-2 weeks after discontinuing the use of Promacta.

  • Patients should initiate Promacta at a dose of 50 mg once daily, except in patients who are of east Asian origin, or rather who have mild to severe hepatic impairment.

Promacta Side Effects
