Polycarb Uses

Polycarb is a medication that is formulated to be used for relieving constipation. It contains calcium polycarbophil as the active agent responsible for relieving the body off constipation. It is mostly referred to as the bulk forming laxative since it increases the bulk in the stool thus helping in the movement of the intestine. 

Polycarb mainly works by increasing the amount of water in the stool thus making the stool softer and easier to pass. 

The drug may also be used to treat other conditions as prescribed by the physician.

Polycarb Dosage

Polycarb is a very sensitive drug and it is crucial to administer it in the right amounts. Mostly, the drug will be supplied with clear instructions from the manufacturer on how it should be administered. Ensure both physician and manufacturer instructions have been followed to the letter. Polycarb is supplied in the form of capsules or tablets and is only for oral administration. Taking it after meals especially supper would be the best time to have it.

Usual adult’s dosage for:

  • Constipation; 2 caplets once a day. The maximum that a patient is up to 4 times a day.

Pediatric dosage:

  • 12 years and above; adult dosage
  • 12 years and under; there is no established amount of Polycarb dosage that has been provided so far for these kids. The amount that a patient can take is mostly determined by the severity of the condition. If the patient is suffering from severe constipation, then, they are likely to be given a higher dosage.

Polycarb Side Effects
