Poly-Vent is a combination medication used to treat various upper respiratory symptoms caused by common cold, allergies and other breathing illnesses. It is known for its expectorant and decongestant properties that make it very effective in treating upper respiratory conditions. Poly-Vent formulated by combining two main medicines - guaifenesin and pseudoephedrine.
Guaifenesin is the expectorant agent in the combination that works by thinning and loosening the mucus to clear the congestions. Pseudoephedrine is the decongestant agent that narrows blood vessels to reduce nasal congestion. The drug may also be used as a treatment for other conditions as the physician may prescribe.

Usual adult dosage for a cough and nasal congestion:
- Tablet; 1 Poly-Vent tablet orally every 6 hours. Max dose; 4 tablets a day.
- Capsules; 1-2 capsules every 4-6 hours.
- Liquid; 10 mL orally every 4 to 6 hours. Max dose; 40 mL in 24 hours.
Usual pediatric dosage for a cough and nasal congestion:
- 3 years and above; syrup, tablet or capsule (15 to 60 mg pseudoephedrine) orally every 4. Max dose; 4 doses a day.
- 13 years and over; 1 Poly-Vent tablet or capsule (30 to 120 mg pseudoephedrine) orally every 12 hours.
Poly-Vent Side Effects
