Poly-Tussin is a combination medication that is formulated to treat various symptoms of the flu, cold, allergies and other upper respiratory infections. It is an antihistamine and a cough suppressant drug that is formulated by combining two medicines-chlorcyclizine and codeine. 

Chlorcyclizine is the antihistamine agent in the combination, and it works by reducing the effect of the natural histamine in the body. Histamine is the chemical responsible for allergic reactions like a runny nose and watery eyes. Codeine is the narcotic cough suppressant, and it works in the brain to by triggering cough reflex.
