Pilosol Uses

Pilosol is used either alone or with other medications to treat high pressure in the eyes triggered by glaucoma or other eye sicknesses, for instance, ocular hypertension. Lowering high pressure inside the eye helps to prevent blindness, vision loss and nerve damage. For persons who may have been using drugs used to enlarge the pupil for instance during an eye exam, Pilosol can reduce the enlargement.

Pilosol works by making the pupil decrease in size which in effect leads to decreasing the amount of fluids in the eye.

  • High pressure in the eyes (intraocular hypertension)

Pilosol Dosage

The Pilosol dosage depends on the individual and the condition being treated. To apply eye drops clean your hands first. Remove any contact lenses before application and after application, wait at least 15 minutes before replacing the contact lenses. Tilt your head upwards and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. At this point, hold the dropper directly above your eye and place one drop into the pouch. You should then let go of the eyelids and gently close your eyes. To prevent the medication from draining out, you should place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply pressure for a minute or two. Below you will find a typical Pilosol dosage.

  • The preliminary dose is one or two drops applied to the affected eye(s).
  • Apply 3 to 4 times each day or as directed by your doctor.
  • The frequency of instillation and concentration of Pilosol is determined by the severity of the glaucoma and the miotic response of the patient. For persons with heavily pigmented irises, higher strengths may be needed.
