Phen-Tuss Uses

Phen-Tuss is a medication that is formulated to treat various conditions. It is mostly used to treat and prevent allergy symptoms such as hives, itchy skin, watery eyes, sneezing and others caused by upper respiratory infections. Phen-Tuss is an antihistamine that is grouped as a phenothiazine. It works by reducing the effect of the natural histamine in the body. Histamine is the chemical responsible for causing most of these allergic reactions. The drug may also be used to treat other condition such as nausea, vomiting and motion sickness.

Phen-Tuss Dosage

Phen-Tuss must be administered as prescribed by the physician for the expected outcome to be achieved. The patient should never take Phen-Tuss in a large amount as this can result in severe healthy complications. It should be administered as an injection or orally. Usual adult dosage

  • Anaphylaxis; 25 mg IV or IM once and should be repeated within 2 hours. For oral dosage; 25 mg once and be repeated every 4 hours. Rectal dosage; 25 mg once and be repeated every 4 hours.
  • Allergic rhinitis; 25 mg IV or IM once and should repeated within 2 hours. Oral dosage; 25 mg at bedtime.
  • Nausea vomiting; 12.5 to 25 mg every 4 to 6 hours.

Usual pediatric dosage

  • Allergic reactions: 2 years and above; 0.5 mg/kg.
  • Nausea or vomiting: 0.5 to 1 mg/kg/dose every 6 hours.
