Pediagen Uses

Pediagen is a combination antibiotic which is mainly used to treat ear infections, especially in children. This medication works by fighting or stopping the growth of bacteria. This medication contains erythromycin which is a macrolide antibiotic and sulfisoxazole which is a sulfa-type drug that fights bacteria in the body. However,

Pediagen treats only bacterial infections but does not treat viral infections such as the common cold or flu. Note that this medication should not be used by children less than two months of age. This is due to the risk of serious side effects. However, this antibiotic combination may also be used for other purposes as determined by the doctor. Note that unnecessary use or misuse of any antibiotic can lead to a decrease in its effectiveness.

Pediagen dosage is given in the form of oral granule for reconstitution. Pediagen dosage is dependent on the user since it is different on different users.The dosage also depends on the strength of the medicine. 2 months and above:

  • 50 mg/kg per day orally divided into 3 or 4 equal doses for 10 days

2 months to 18 years:

  • 50 mg/kg per day orally divided into 3 or 4 equal doses for 10 days.
