Nabumetone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to treat the pain and inflammation caused by rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Nabumetone has a lower potential for causing gastrointestinal mucosal irritancy and inhibition of platelet function, less association of heart failure and little effect on renal prostaglandin secretions of other medications in this class.
Nabumetone is a drug used in the treatment of inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The drug belongs to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) class of medicine; a drug whose anti-inflammatory activity depends upon its inhibition of the COX enzyme.
This is because it"s the COX enzyme that produces pro-inflammatory mediators - called prostaglandins - in the body. By inhibiting this enzyme, nabumetone is able to reduce inflammation at joints (though it reduces inflammation generally, too).
Nabumetone is associated with its own range of potential side effects. Among these include stomach pain, indigestion, diarrhea, gas, itching, skin rash, tinnitus, and swelling in the hands and feet.
