Hycosin Uses

Hycosin is a narcotic cough suppressant and expectorant combination. The cough suppressant works by interfering with a certain part of the brain (cough center) to lessen the urge to cough. The expectorant works signaling the body to increase the amount of hydration or secretion to lubricate the irritated respiratory tract.

Just like most cold and cough medications, Hycosin should not be used for more than 21 days and an alternative treatment should be sought if the symptoms haven’t improved. Note that Hycosin may impair thinking, thus avoid engaging in activities that require to you be alert or awake while taking the drug. Hycosin is indicated for:

  • Coughs
  • Allergies
  • Common cold

Hycosin Dosage

Hycosin comes with a medication guide in the products package. The medication guide should be read comprehensively and if you have any questions contact your doctor or physician. Hycosin dose may differ from one individual to the other based on factors such as age, weight, medical history, response to treatment and the severity of the condition being treated.

  • 1 extended release tablet (1200 mg-20 mg) orally every 12 hours with a maximum dose of 2 tablets every 24 hours

If you miss a Hycosin dose take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is about time for the second dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the normal schedule. Do not take double Hycosin doses.
