A gynecologist is a physician who has dedicated training and has a very unique experience in managing diseases that are found in the female genital parts. Gynecology is simply the study of how diseases in the female reproductive parts and how they can be cured. The study involves a detailed knowledge of how the physiologies of the female reproductive organs like the vagina, uterus, breasts, ovary and the oviduct. All the normal activities and the diseases that are associated with the organs are part of the study a gynecologist passes through.
Gynecology features an intense training program where students learn directly from nationally recognized experts in the field. They develop understanding of almost all gynecology diseases and they learn on how to evaluate patients who have gynecology problems. They treat a broad range of gynecology conditions and also provide recommendations to prevent and maintain the diseases. Gynecologists learn how to care and provide quality services to patients in their offices as well as in health centers. In order for one to become fully a gynecologist he or she should have completed a three year internal medicine residency. After that he/she is eligible for some other specialized training in the field of gynecology. The training is usually 2 to 3 years so in general gynecologists take a maximum of 5 to 6 years of additional specialized education training medical school.
Gynecologists, however, will be expected to get the general knowledge on how this patient will be treated no matter what case the patient is having. Some of the conditions that might arise in these women include, painful menstrual periods, fungal, bacterial or viral infections around the vaginal area, absence of menstrual periods, cancer in the reproductive organs, menstrual periods that are heavy and persistent orgasm
The most important thing that they need to learn during the training period is total attention to details and in addition to comprehensive knowledge of the entire reproductive system to provide the highest quality and consultative services. After training, the final product is a highly trained specialist who has a unique broad of scientific knowledge and has the ability to put together elements and provide optimal health care for her patients.
