Guanfacine HCL Uses
Guanfacine HCL belongs to a class of drugs known as antihypertensive. While the exact way that Guanfacine HCL works is not known, it is believed to affect the receptors in some parts of the brain to strengthen working memory, reduce distraction and improve attention as well as impulse control.
Guanfacine HCL helps reduce the symptoms of ADHD such as being inattentive, hyperactive and disruptive, arguing with adults, impulsive or losing one’s temper. When used to treat blood pressure, Guanfacine HCL is thought to work by relaxing the blood vessels, an action that leads to improved blood flow. Guanfacine HCL is indicated for:

Guanfacine HCL Dosage
Guanfacine HCL dosage is based on the severity of the condition it is being used to treat. In addition, the doctor may determine the dosage depending on the patient’s age, medical history, weight or the patient’s ability to tolerate the effects of the drug. In addition, the time, duration between doses and the length of using Guanfacine HCL is determined by the condition being treated. Guanfacine HCL Dose for Attention Deficit Disorder
- 1 mg extended-release orally once a day in the morning. Maintenance dose: 1 to 4 mg extended-release orally once daily in the morning, depending on clinical response and tolerability
Guanfacine HCL Dose for Hypertension
- Initial dose: 1 mg orally once a day at bedtime, when given alone or in combination with another antihypertensive drug. Maintenance dose: 1 to 3 mg orally once a day at bedtime.
If an Guanfacine HCL dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the subsequent dose, the missed dose should be skipped and the normal schedule returned to.
Guanfacine HCL Side Effects
