Guaivent Uses

Guaivent is a guifenesin and pseudophedrine combination. Guifenesin is categorized under expectorants and works by thinning and loosening the air passage thereby helping the patient breath easily. Pseudophedrine is a decongestant that reduces nasal congestion by narrowing blood vessels in the nose.

Guaivent may cause sleeping problem, therefore avoid taking the medication when you’re about to sleep. Also, Guaivent should not be used in children below six years unless specifically authorized by the doctor or pharmacist. Note that Guaivent is only avaibalbel through a doctor's prescription. Guaivent is typically indicated for:

  • Coughs
  • Hay fever
  • Bronchitis
  • Sinusitis

Guaivent Dosage

The dosage may vary from one patient to the other depending on the severity and the condition it is being used to treat. The time, interval between doses and the length a patient may use Guaivent is also dependent on the condition being treated. The amount of dose to be administered is based on patient’s weight and the drug’s strength. Below is a typical Guaivent Dosage

  • 5 mL to 10 mL (100 mg-12.5 mg/5 mL) orally every 4 hours

If a Guaivent dose is missed, take it at the earliest opportunity. However, if it is time for the subsequent dose, skip the missed dose and go back to the normal schedule.

Guaivent Side Effects

Just like any other drug, using Guaivent may result in mild or severe side effects. While the severity of the side effects may differ from one person to the other, severe side effects should be reported immediately to the doctor to avert possible fatalities.  Common side effects may subside as the body gets used to the activities of the drug.
