Guaimist Dm Uses

Guaimist Dm is a combination medicine which is mainly used to treat temporarily a cough, stuffy nose and chest congestion caused by conditions such as the common cold, flu, allergies, and other breathing 6illnesses. 

Guaimist Dm contains Guaifenesin, which is an expectorant which helps in loosening and thinning the mucus in the lungs thus making it easier to cough. It also contains a suppressant Dextromethorphan that affects a certain part of the brain thus reducing the urge to cough. Guaimist Dm also contains a decongestant which aids in relieving stuffy nose symptoms. However, this medication may also be used for other conditions as determined by the doctor.

Guaimist Dm Dosage

Guaimist Dm dosage is dependent on the user since it is different on different users. The dosage is administered in the form of oral tablets or oral capsules.The dosage also depends on the strength of the medicine and it is only taken to treat chest congestion or a cough. Read the prescription details on the label or consult the doctor for details. Do not start, stop or change the dosage without consulting the doctor.

Adult Dose for Cough

  • 10 mg-200 mg oral capsule: 2 capsules every 4 hours. not more than 12 capsules per day
  • 10 mg-100 mg/5 mL oral liquid: 10 mL every 4 hours, not more than 60 mL per day
  • 5 mg-100 mg oral granule: 2 to 4 packets every 4 hours, not more than 6 doses per day
  • 30 mg-600 mg oral tablet, extended release: 1 or 2 tablets every 12 hours, not to exceed 4 tablets per day

Pediatric Dose for Cough
oral liquid:

  • 6 to 12 years: 5 mL to 10 mL every 4 hours. Do not exceed 60 mL per day
  • 4 to 6 years: 2.5 mL to 5 mL every 4 hours. Do not exceed 30 mL per day
  • Under 4 years: Consult the doctor for a precription
