Guaidex-Tr Uses

Guaidex-Tr is a combination medicine which is mainly used to relieve coughs caused by conditions such as the common cold, bronchitis and other breathing illnesses. This medication is a combination of Guaifenesin and Dextromethorphan. 

Guaifenesin is an expectorant that works by thinning and loosening mucus airways thus clearing congestion and making breathing easier. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant that acts on a part of the brain to reduce the urge to cough. However, this medication may also be used for other conditions as determined by the doctor. Read and follow the instructions exactly as indicated on the label or as prescribed by the doctor.

Guaidex-Tr Dosage

Guaidex-Tr dosage is administered in the form of oral liquid, oral capsules or tablets. The dosage depends on the strength of the medicine. It also varies with the age since dosage is different for different patients. Do not start, stop or change dosage unless instructed by the doctor.
Adult Dose for Cough

  • 10 mg-200 mg oral capsule: 2 capsules every 4 hours, not to exceed 12 capsules per day
  • 5 mg-100 mg/5 mL oral liquid: 10 mL to 20 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 120 mL per day
  • oral tablet, extended release: 1 or 2 tablets every 12 hours, not to exceed 4 tablets per day

Pediatric Dose for Cough
Note: Above 12 years should follow the adult dosage

5 mg-100 mg oral granule:

  • 6 to 12 years: 1 to 2 packets every 4 hours, not to exceed 6 doses per day
  • Under 6 years: Should not use

5 mg-100 mg/5 mL oral liquid:

  • 6 to 12 years: 5 mL to 10 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 60 mL per day
  • 4 to 6 years: 2.5 mL to 5 mL every 4 hours, not to exceed 30 mL per day

Guaidex-Tr Side Effects

Guaidex-Tr has several side effects. Most side effects are brought by unnecessary use or overusing the medicine. However, it has some needed side effects which may not be reported and some unwanted side effects which should be reported for medication.
