Guaiacol Uses

Guaiacol is a substance made from wood-tar creosite which is mainly used as an intestinal antiseptic, an expectorant and a local anesthetic to treat coughs. Guaiacol is one of the main ingredients of wood tar creosote. However, this medication is softer than creosote. This medication is absorbed by the skin when rubbed. However, when administered this way it is hard to control it.

However, being an intestinal antiseptic and an expectorant, it is not excreted by the lungs. This medication may also be used for other purposes as determined by the doctor. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for more information.

Guaiacol Dosage

Guaiacol dosage is given in emulsion in the form of oral capsules. Guaiacol dosage is dependent on the user since it is different on different users.The dosage also depends on the strength of the medicine. Read and follow the prescription details exactly as indicated on the label or as prescribed by the doctor. If you are not sure about the dosage, you should consult the doctor for details. Do not start, stop or change the dosage unless the doctor tells you to do so.

How to use Guaiacol

  • Guaiacol 100 mg/5 mL x 60 mL
  • Initial dose: Do not exceed 0.1 Cc. or 1.5 minims
  • The dose should be increased gradually to 0.6 Cc. or 10 minims.
  • It may also be applied to the pharynx as a 50% solution in glycerin

Note: Local use of Guaiacol as an antipyreptic is not recommended due to the symptoms of collapse which may follow later.
