Gordo-Urea is an important drug, especially for the skin. This medication is often used as a moisturizer among other uses. Dry skin is normally caused by a loss of water in the uppermost layer of the skin. These emollients that are also referred to as moisturizers work by forming an oily layer on the skin surface. This normally traps water in the skin. The uses include:
- Treating itchy skin.
- Treating and preventing dry skin and other minor skin irritations.
GP-1200 has emollients that soften and moisturize the skin and reduce the itching and flaking. Products that are mostly used to protect the skin against irritation are zinc oxide and white petrolatum.
Common moisturizers include lanolin, mineral oil, and humectants such as glycerin, lecithin, and propylene glycol that normally draw water into the outer layer of the skin. Many products also have ingredients that soften the horny substance (keratin) which holds the top skin layer cells together. Examples are: urea, alpha hydroxyl acids like lactic/ citric / glycolic acid and Allenton.
