Geocillin Uses

Geocillin should only be used in treating or preventing infections that are believed to be brought about by susceptible bacteria. This is so as to minimize the development of drug-resistant bacteria and enhance the effectiveness of the medication along other antibacterial drugs.

The medication is used in treating infections in the urinary tract as well as in asymptomatic bacteriuria as a result of susceptible strains of the below organisms;

  • Proteus vulgaris
  • Morganella morganii
  • Proteus mirabilis
  • Escherichia coli
  • Enterobacter
  • Pseudomonas
  • Enterococci
  • Enterobacter

Geocillin is also used to treat prostatitis brought forth by susceptible strains of the following organisms;

  • Enterococcus
  • Proteus mirabilis
  • Enterobacter sp
  • Escherichia coli

Geocillin Dosage

It is important to carefully follow the dosage instructions as directed by a doctor to avoid overdose or severe side effects. Even though an overdose of Geocillin may not bring about any serious or fatal side effects, it may bring about unwanted gastrointestinal irritations.

Geocillin is available as a coated tablet which should be administered orally as indicated below;

  • When treating upper or lower urinary tract infections, caused by susceptible organisms such as proteus mirabilis and Escherichia coli, one should take one or two tablets four times a day. However, with Pseudomonas and Enterococcus, one should take 2 tablets four times a day.
  • On the other hand, when treating prostatitis, one should take two tablets four times a day.
