Galantamine HBR Uses

Galantamine HBr is a drug used to treat symptoms of dementia. Dementia is a condition that is usually associated with Alzheimer"s. Dementia is usually characterized by the gradual decline of a patient"s mental ability to cope with daily life. This condition is usually caused by physical changes in the brain.

This medication works by improving the memory function for patients, even those who may have significant decline in the brain. Galantamine HBr helps patients to remember both long-term and short-term memory in the brain. Patients taking this medication should see significant improvement in areas of reasoning, focus and mental processing. This medication helps patients to increase their attention span and mental clarity. Galantamine HBr works by interfering with an enzyme that causes the breakdown of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that handles cognitive functions.

Therefore, if the patient"s condition worsens, they should contact their doctor.
