Flecainide is used to treat and prevent irregular heartbeats (arrhythmias) including paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) and paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF). Flecainide may also be used to treat and prevent potentially life-threatening sustained ventricular tachycardia (sustained VT). Flecainide is a prescription drug that is only available through a doctor’s prescription.

Flecainide works by inhibiting the function of certain electrical signals in the heart that cause an irregular heartbeat. Through its activities, Flecainide by extension helps prevent certain forms of irregular heartbeat such as atrial fibrillation from reoccurring. Flecainide belongs to a class of drug known as anti-arrhythmics.
Note that treating an irregular heartbeat lowers the risk of certain conditions such as blood clots, an effect that can lower the patient’s risk of stroke or heart attack.
An irregular heartbeat, also known as Arrhythmia is a condition characterized by an improper beating of the heart. The heartbeat may be irregular, too fast or too slow. The most notable symptoms of Arrhythmia include chest pain, fainting, dizziness and fluttering in the chest. Flecainide is indicated for:

The Flecainide dosage is determined by the doctor. The doctor may base an individual dose using factors such as the patient’s weight, age, medical history and response to treatment. The amount of Flecainide to be used is dependent on the strength of the drug. Flecainide is most effective when there is constant amount in the blood. To help main a constant amount of Flecainide in the blood, avoid missing any doses. Also, take doses at an interval of 12 hour; in the morning and at night unless otherwise directed by the doctor.
