Factrel is used to cause ovulation in women who suffers from irregular ovulation and menstrual periods. The problem is caused by having a faulty hypothalamus gland that is responsible for releasing gonadotropin releasing hormone. Factrel functions by stimulating the pituitary gland to release other reproductive hormones like luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) that controls the development of calves and the fertility of cows. The drug is used to the test how well the hypothalamus and the pituitary gland are working. Factrel is also used in the medication of other conditions but under the prescription of a qualified doctor.

- 5 mcg over 90 minutes for 21 days delivered intravenously for a period of 1 minute.
