Zenpep is a combination of three enzymes that are used to boost the work of a pancreas that isn't functioning optimally. The three enzymes are lipase, protease and amylase and these are important in the digestion of proteins, sugars and fats. Zenpep may also be used following the surgical removal of either the pancreas or stomach. Zenpep (pancrelipase) is a medication that helps in the digestion process. The drug is formulated by combining the following enzymes - lipase, protease, and amylase. These are enzymes that are produced by the pancreas; in cases where the pancreas is not producing these enzymes, Zenpep will come in. Zenpep works by replacing these digestive enzymes if the body cannot produce them on its own. These enzymes are very crucial when it comes to digestion of fats, sugars, and proteins. Conditions like cystic fibrosis, blockage of the pancreas ducts, or chronic inflammation are some of the reason that can lead to the pancreas being unable to produce these enzymes. Zenpep is available in liquid and should be administered orally.
