Yaz is a steroidal progestin that belongs to the spironolactone group. Yaz is a combination of two hormones (Ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone). Estradiol is a progestin while Ethinyl estradiol is an estrogen. Yaz is used to prevent pregnancy and as a postmenopausal hormone replacement pill. Yaz is also used to treat moderate acne in women aged 14 years and above and have started experiencing menstrual periods. Also, Yaz is used to help deal with the symptoms of the premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) including anxiety, sleep, appetite changes, and weight gain as well breast tenderness.
Yaz works by preventing ovulation during a menstrual cycle. Yaz also thickens the vaginal fluid, thereby making it hard for the sperm to reach the egg for fertilization.
