Telmisartan belongs to the angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) group of medications and is used to treat high blood pressure. Telmisartan is also used alone or together with other drugs to decrease the chance of a stroke, heart attack or death in people who are 55 years or older. Telmisartan works by blocking the action of some natural substances in the body that tighten blood vessels. Blocking the action of these substances enables the heart to pump efficiently and improves blood to flow. Telmisartan is an (ARB) angiotensin receptor blocker, used in managing of hypertension. Telmisartan was developed by Boehringer Ingelheim and was launched in the year 1999 using the trade name Micardis worldwide. Telmisartan is used in the treatment of high blood pressure alone or along with other drugs. It is also used in reducing the risk of stroke, heart attack or death due to cardiac problems in specific patients. Telmisartan may also be used in the treatment of heart failure and helps by protecting the kidneys from damage due to diabetes.
