Simcor is a combination drug made of niacin and simvastatin, and it is used to treat dyslipidemia. Soltamox is in a class of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors. Simcor lowers the cholesterol in the body when a low-fat diet is inadequate. Simcor lowers low-density lipoprotein also known as bad cholesterol. It also lowers triglycerides, which are a type of blood fat. Simcor is a medication that is used together with a proper diet and exercise to help lower bad (LDL) cholesterol concentrates and fats in the blood. Simcor also helps raise good (HDL) cholesterol levels in the blood. Simcor belongs to a class of drugs known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors (statins). Simcor works by blocking the production of cholesterol by the liver and by helping get rid of fats in the blood from the body. By lowering bad cholesterol and raising good cholesterol, Simcor reduces the risk of conditions such as heart disease and kidney failure. Reducing bad cholesterol can also lessen the risk of pancreatitis.
