Seasonique is a combination hormone drug that prevents pregnancy. It has a progestin, levonorgestrel and an estrogen, Ethinyl estradiol. Seasonique belongs to a drug class called contraceptives. Seasonique inhibits ovulation by providing a non-conducive fertilization environment.
Seasonique is a combination of two hormones (progestin and estrogen) used to prevent pregnancy. Seasonique works by preventing ovulation (release of an egg) during a woman’s menstrual cycle. Seasonique also makes the vaginal fluid thicker, an action that blocks the sperm from reaching an egg, thereby preventing fertilization. Seasonique may also alter the lining of the womb to inhibiting attachment of a fertilized egg.
When a fertilized egg fails to attach itself to the lining of the uterus, it is passed out of the body. Apart from preventing pregnancy, Seasonique may also regulate your periods, reduce the amount of blood lost and pain during periods and lessen the risk of developing ovarian cysts. Seasonique can also treat acne.
