Ropinirole is a dopamine agonist that works in some parts of the brain to reduce the symptoms of restless leg syndrome and Parkinson disease. Ropinirole is among the three medications approved by the FDA to treat RLS. The other two medications are pramipexole and gabapentin enacarbil.
Ropinirole Er is a prescription drug that is used alone or with other medications to treat Parkinson’s disease. Ropinirole Er can improve the patient’s ability to move and reduce tremor (shakiness).
Ropinirole Er can also decrease slowed movement and unsteadiness as well as stiffness associated with Parkinson’s disease. Also, Ropinirole Er may lessen the number of episodes of not being able to move, referred to as the “on and off syndrome.”
Ropinirole Er works by restoring the balance of a particular substance that occurs naturally in the brain called dopamine. Ropinirole Er is in a class of medicines known as dopamine agonists.
