Mirtazapine, the active ingredient in Remeron, has a tetracyclic chemical structure, hence classified as tricyclic antidepressants. The drug belongs to a group of chemical compounds known as piperazino-azepines. Remeron forms range from a white to creamy crystalline powder which moderately dissolves in water. Each tablet of this drug contains hydroxypropyl cellulose, corn starch, lactose, magnesium stearate and other inactive ingredients.
