Osphena is a non-estrogen medication that reverses certain changes in vaginal tissue that are caused by menopause. Osphena changes the vagina at the cellular level physically by helping it to repair and rebuild specific vaginal tissue. Osphena belongs to a class of drugs known as selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERM). Osphena (ospemifene) is a non-estrogen medication that is used to relieve pain during sexual intercourse. The drug is mostly prescribed to women who have reached the menopausal stage which is characterised by hormonal changes that result in painful sexual intercourse. Osphena is formulated by a combination of hormones including estrogen and progestin. Osphena works by providing the body with hormones that could be lacking in the body such as estrogen and progestin. Once a better balance of these hormones is achieved, the painful sexual intercourse will disappear. Osphena is available in the form of tables and should be administered orally with or without food but with plenty of water.
