Ortho-Cyclen is an oral contraceptive that is made of two different female hormones. Ortho-Cyclenis primarily used to prevent pregnancy in women of child bearing age. Ortho-Cyclenmainly works by stopping ovulation and changing the uterine walls and thickening the cervical mucus. Therefore, the sperm cells cannot fertilize the egg, and a fertilized egg cannot develop in the uterus. Ortho-Cyclen is a medicine used as a contraceptive to prevent pregnancy. The medicine has two active ingredients, ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate, each of which works by different, but complementary means. Both ethinyl estradiol and norgestimate are female hormones - and are, as such, responsible for the regulation of the female reproductive process. Ortho-Cyclen works to prevent ovulation, the process whereby an egg is released from the ovary. The medicine also alters the uterine lining and thickens cervical mucus. All of these effects serve to reduce the likelihood that a fertilised egg reaches the uterine wall. Common side effects associated with Ortho-Cyclen include nausea, vomiting, breast tenderness, weight changes, rash, and irregular menstrual bleeding.
