Ofev contains a kinase inhibitor known as nintedanib that blocks multiple pathways that may be involved in the scarring of lung tissue. Ofev is used for the treatment of lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). IPF results into scar tissues forming deep within the lungs resulting in the scar tissue becoming thick and getting stiff over time. This hardens the work of the lungs and thus makes it difficult to breathe. Lung failure disrupts the supply of air to other organs which will now result in problems occurring in the heart, brain and any other body that faces the shortage of oxygen. Ofev does not specifically cure IPF but slows the progress of the disease.
