Natroba (spinosad) is an anti-parasite medication used for the topical treatment of head lice infestations in patients of six months of age and older. This medication is for external use only, and the patient must also treat their environment to achieve a complete treatment and to prevent reinfection. It is recommended that you wash your clothing, hats, bedding and towels in hot water and dry in high heat. In addition, you should dry-clean any non-washable clothing and soak all hair brushes, combs, and hair accessories in hot water for at least 10 minutes. During medication, you should avoid intimate contact and sharing hair-related personal items to avoid infecting others. Natroba is a pediculicide. Natroba is used for the treatment of head lice, tiny parasites that infest and irritate the scalp. Head lice lay small white eggs known as nits at the roots of the hair, close to the scalp, often on the hairline at the back of the neck and behind the ears. Natroba works by paralyzing and killing the head lice and the eggs. In so doing, Natroba breaks the production cycle of the head lice. The FDA approved Natroba on January 18. 2011. The active ingredient in Natroba is known as spinosad and is derived from Saccharopolyspora spinosa, a naturally occurring soil bacterium.
