Maxidex is an anti-inflammatory drug that contains Dexamethasone as an active ingredient. Dexamethasone is classified in a group of drugs known as corticosteroids thus simulating the role of hormones naturally produced by the adrenal gland. Maxidex has several uses but is primarily used to treat eye swelling that may arise due to an infection, trauma or surgery. Its anti-inflammatory nature also is utilized to reduce swellings around brain or spine tumors. It is also included in chemotherapy regimens to improve patient appetites. It reduces inflammation by preventing white blood cells from reaching the infected parts in question.
