Livalo is a medicine that belongs to a group of drugs that are known as HMG CoA reductase inhibitors or statins. This medicine is used in the reduction of bad cholesterol, the low density lipoprotein or LDL, and triglycerides in the blood while increasing the levels of good cholesterol, high density of lipoprotein or HDL.
Livalo (pitavastatin) helps control the level of bad cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein) and triglycerides in the blood. At the same time, Livalo helps the body to accumulate the good cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein). Livalo treats high cholesterol, and it should only be administered to adult patients. By maintaining the levels of cholesterol, Livalo helps in preventing possible hard diseases.
Livalo also helps in preventing the hardening of arteries, a condition that is likely to cause stroke, heart attack or vascular disease. It is not a safe drug for pregnant mothers or the breast feeding mothers. Livalo is supplied in the form of tablets, and thus, it should be administered orally with or without food.
