Levothyroxine is a synthetic thyroid hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland to regulate the body's metabolism and energy. It is administered when thyroid gland fails to produce enough levothyroxine on its own. Levothyroxine help to treat hypothyroidism which is low thyroid hormone. Similarly, it is also used to treat or prevent goiter, a condition characterized by enlarged thyroid glands, which can be caused by surgery, hormone imbalances cancer or radiation treatment.
Levothyroxine Sodium is a hormonal medication administered to patients that have diagnosed with levothyroxine deficiency. This is a hormone that is only produced by the thyroid glands. It is used in the treatment of hypothyroidism or what is medically referred to as the low thyroid hormone.
Levothyroxine Sodium can also be used to as a treatment or prevention for other conditions such as the goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), TSH Suppression and Myxedema Coma among others. The dosage should be observed keenly especially in pediatric patients. It is also to avoid this drug if you have been diagnosed with medical conditions such as uncontrolled adrenal gland disorder, thyrotoxicosis or heart conditions such as a heart attack.
