Gallium is a form of nitrate salt that is used in lowering blood levels of calcium. Gallium lowers calcium levels when they become extremely (dangerous) in cancer patients who respond poorly to fluid injected into the vein or fluid intake. Gallium works by exerting a hypocalcemic effect, which stops calcium resorption through the increase of bone turnover.
