Fluvastatin is a drug used in the treatment of hypercholesterolemia, or elevated blood cholesterol levels. Fluvastatin belongs to a class of drugs known as HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors, a class that disrupts the synthesis of cholesterol inside the body. As a result, fluvastatin helps prevent long-term cholesterol complications such as cardiovascular disease. Common side effects include headache, heartburn, cough and confusion.
