Dacogen is a hypomethylating agent prescribed to patients that have myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). It is considered a lower-intensive therapy for patients. It can be taken on an outpatient basis. Dacogen takes chemical groups called methyl groups away from the DNA of the cancer cells. This in turn allows normal cells to be active again while the cells causing cancer are suppressed.
