Ciprodex (ciprofloxacin/dexamethasone) is a medication used to treat bacterial ear infections. The drug is mostly used to treat ear infections in children diagnosed with ear tubes. Ciprofloxacin is the antibiotic that works by decreasing the growth of the of the bacteria cell. This also inhibits the production vitamins that the bacteria feeds on to treat the infection. Dexamethasone is the steroid agent in Ciprodex. It works reducing the action of the chemical responsible for causing inflammation of the ear.
Ciprodex works by inhibiting the growth of bacteria and reducing swelling and discomfort of the ear. It is supplied in the form of liquid or otic suspension, and it should be administered in the form of drops into the sick ear.
