Cefaclor is a semisynthetic oral antibiotic that belongs to the cephalosporin antibiotic family. Cefaclor works by stopping the multiplication of bacteria by preventing the formation of walls that surround bacteria. These walls are important in protecting bacteria from the surrounding environment and helps in keeping together the contents of the bacteria. Eventually, bacteria dies because it cannot survive without a cell wall. Cefaclor is effective against a number of bacterial organisms that include Haemophilus influenzae, staphylococcus aureus, E. coli and Streptococcus pneumoniae. Medics refer to Cefaclor as a broad-spectrum antibiotic because of its ability to kill a large number of bacteria. The drug is used to treat bacterial infections that include: chest, skin, and urinary tract infections.
