Colazal Uses

Colazal treats symptoms of active ulcerative colitis, a bowel disease. When taken, Colazal is converted to mesalamine and works to reduce inflammation of the bowels, diarrhea, stomach pain, and rectal bleeding. Ulcerative colitis, although its cause is not known, mainly occurs in people aged 15 to 35 years and people between the ages of 55 to 60. People with ulcerative colitis will experience symptoms like rectal bleeding, bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain or tenderness, and bowel urgency among other symptoms.

Colazal Dosage

Colazal dosage is dependent on the individual that it is being administered to. The following dosage is an average dose and could differ among individuals. Do not take a larger dose or more frequent doses without approval from your doctor. Follow your medical professional"s directions carefully for best results.

  • Adults: three 750 gm taken three times a day for about eight weeks
  • Pediatric use: in patients aged 5 to 17, three 750 mg doses of the drug 3 times daily for 8 weeks
