Clindamycin palmitate is a drug used in the treatment of bacterial infections. More specifically, the drug is used against anaerobic bacteria, that is to say, bacteria which do not use oxygen to respire. This makes clindamycin palmitate an effective drug in the treatment of conditions such as MRSA, pneumonia, acne, strep throat, joint infections, middle ear infections, and endocarditis among other conditions.
Clindamycin palmitate works by disrupting protein synthesis in bacterial cells. Proteins are essential for the growth, repair, and proper functioning of cells. They are, in other words, a core building block of the bacterium.
Common side effects associated with clindamycin palmitate include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, and vaginal discharge. Some patients also experience skin rash. The drug also substantially increases the risk of developing Clostridium difficile colitis.
