Bethaprim Uses

Bethaprim is a combination of two antibiotics that is mainly used to treat various bacterial infections such as urinary tract infections, bronchitis, ear infections, traveller"s diarrhea and pneumocystis-type pneumonia. This medication contains two antibiotics that are: sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Note that this medication should not be used in children who are less than two months of age since it can cause serious side effects. However, Bethaprim only treats only certain types of bacterial infections. It does not treat viral infections for example flu. Bethaprim Dosage

Bethaprim dosage is taken in the form of oral tablets and oral capsules. Dosage varies with the age of the patient and the strength of the medicine. Adult Dose for Pneumocystis Pneumonia

  • Oral tablets: 15 to 20 mg/kg per day in 3 to 4 equally divided doses every 6 to 8 hours
  • Duration: 14 to 21 days

Adult Dose for Pneumocystis Pneumonia Prophylaxis

  • Oral tablets: 160 mg-800 mg or 1 double-strength tablet once a day or 3 times a week

Adult Dose for Urinary Tract Infection

  • Oral tablets: 160 mg-800 mg or 1 double-strength tablet once a day or 3 times a week

Adult Dose for Bronchitis

  • 160 mg-800 mg or 1 tablet orally every 12 hours for 14 days

Adult Dose for Traveler"s Diarrhea

  • 160 mg-800 mg orally every 12 hours for 5 days
