Betanate is prescribed to topically treat a variety of different skin problems from a variety of causes. Some of these conditions include:
- allergic reactions
- skin rash
It may be used to treat other conditions at the discretion of the individual physician prescribing the medication. Betanate works by slowing or stopping the actions of certain chemicals in the body that can cause pain, swelling, redness, and inflammation.
Betanate reduces or removes these symptoms. Usually it is only able to treat symptoms of the conditions it is prescribed for rather than defeating the condition, but it still provides great relief to many patients.
Betanate is a topical medication to be applied directly to the affected area of the skin. Before applying, wash your hands and clean the affected area. Then apply a thin film of medication to the skin and gently rub it in.
- Betanate is usually prescribed for use once or twice daily, depending upon instructions from the prescribing physician.
Avoid covering the affected area after Betanate is applied, and wash the medication off of your hands unless the affected area is on the hand. Betanate should not be used to treat the groin, underarms, or face unless otherwise directed by a physician.
